I do not prefer to work solely from photographs, although exceptions are made for posthumous, historical and pet portraits. I like the sitter to come to my studio while I photograph them and paint a color study. This may take 6 hours of your time and commitment. With pets, this may not be realistic so I will consider using your high quality photo references, if I cannot take the photos myself.
The above requirement allows me to use the photos as reference while referring to the color study as my map for painting the flesh tones. Additionally, because the portrait will be painted in the same light in which it was photographed, natural coloration and tonal relationships are honored.
About Pet Vignettes
An 11×14″ inch vignette with a solid light or dark background, sky background or medium toned mottled background. I can give you my suggestion once a photograph has been selected. The picture is painted in the Impressionistic style with key features finely modeled in the Classical Realism style. The result is a lively, painterly feeling. (below is example of medium toned, mottled background)
Custom design and size pricing varies depending on your preferences. Prices increase based on the number of subjects, props, background and size. I can give you an exact price after we discuss your wishes and your budget.
About Adult and Children Vignettes (Head, shoulders)
A 14×18″ vignette with a solid light, dark or medium toned mottled or solid background, or a sky background. I can suggest a background and color if you like. Belgian linen canvas on wooden stretcher bars or on panel. (below is example of a solid background)
About Custom Portraits
A single subject (person or pet) painting with light or dark solid background or with a medium toned, mottled background. Portrait is painted either on stretched linen canvas or on a linen archival panel, in the Classical Realism style, layered paint application, striving towards achieving the likeness and attention to detail the subject requires. Custom design and size pricing varies depending on your preferences. Prices increase based on the number of subjects, props, background and size. I can give you an exact price after we discuss your wishes and your budget.
I meet the client in person in my studio to discuss their wishes and to schedule future meetings where I can photograph them in situ and paint directly from life. In total for the client, this requires perhaps 6 – 12 hours of time, depending on the design and complexity of the portrait.
It may take as long as 6 months to finish your painting. Therefore, I can only produce a limited number of paintings over the course of one year.
My goal is that you feel totally satisfied with the portrait experience overall, and of course, with your painting. My work is based on “word of mouth” referrals so client satisfaction is my top priority.
